Sierra Star Golf Club

Mammoth Lakes, California

You couldn’t be faulted if you overlooked a golf course in a destination that is celebrated for its endless winters. At Mammoth Mountain, one of California’s premier winter resorts in the Eastern Sierras, skiers enjoy over 400” of annual snowfall (as we go to press with our summer issue, the slopes are still open).

But when golf season finally comes to the mountain toward the end of May, what is left is a pretty spectacular setting for the Sierra Star Golf Course. It should come as no surprise this course sits higher than any other in California. The highest hole sits at over 8,000 feet, while the lowest drops to only 7,897 feet. That elevation not only adds yards to your drive, but provides a backdrop of snow-capped peaks even as you enjoy warm, sunny weather.

The public access course offers very reasonable rates, especially in the afternoon, and includes extras such as yardage guides, tees, ball markers, bag tag and range balls. Located about 20 miles north of Yosemite National Park, there are plenty of outdoor adventures available off the golf course.
