Idaho Travel Council

If potato, not golf, is the first association that comes to mind when you think about Idaho, you can’t be blamed. After all, this is a state that produces nearly 11 billion pounds of potatoes a year. But you would be remiss if you didn’t include Idaho as one of the country’s best golf destinations.

What makes the Idaho Golf Trail special is more than its mix of award-winning courses from Sun Valley to Coeur d’Alene. The Trail’s destinations were strategically selected to allow you to travel easily between the three loops (Northern, Central and Southern) and stay in premier resorts.

This year, the Trail got longer, adding the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow as its 11th course. The University’s course will join Stoneridge, Circling Raven and Coeur d’Alene in the Northern Loop.

The Central Loop includes MeadowCreek, Whitetail, Tamarack (a Robert Trent Jones Jr. Signature Course) and Jug Mountain. While the Southern Loop brings Falcon Crest, Banbury (with its four challenging par 3s, all over 200 yards) and Sun Valley into play.

Summer is the best time to plan your trip. Mild weather combined with long hours of daylight give you plenty of time to take on as many courses as your heart desires. And if you plan your visit to play the courses from south to north, you will even have the benefit of gaining an extra hour of daylight once you pass from Mountain to Pacific Time in the northern part of the state.
