Nobody sells golf real estate quite like Tom Fazio, and the
prolific
designer's latest work is Montesoro, a private community in Borrego
Springs,a small town that's 80 miles northeast of San Diego but seems much
farther away in terms of getting away from the bustle of Southern California
living.
Surrounded by the Anzo-Borrego Desert State Park, the 7,300-yard
Montesoro layout boasts features like the 100-foot elevation change on the
par-5 11th hole, back-to-back par 3s at the 9th and 10th holes, and views of
the Santa Rosa Mountains from seemingly everywhere.
"I have never designed a golf course with as many elevations changes
as Montesoro," says Fazio, who has built courses in Blue Ridge and
Rocky mountains. "I took in consideration the panoramic views, landscape
and wildlife."
Some of the creatures that share the 3,000-acre community include
white owls, coyotes and bighorn sheep. But not all of Montesoro is about
roughing it. The community plans to be home to a Callaway Performance Center
for members to take advantage of the latest in technology.
If you want to be part of the Montesoro experience, homesites are
available for $250,000-$550,000.
