When Bridgestone introduced the B330-RX in September 2008, it was a big hit, both literally and figuratively. The first tour-level ball directed at amateur swing speeds, it helped good players with swings less than 105 mph get more distance off their drives without sacrificing feel and spin around the greens. The RX quickly became the third best selling ball, behind the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, and helped Bridgestone grab the No. 2 spot in market share behind Titleist.
I’ve played the RX often and have been very delighted by its performance, both off the driver and wedges, but after 50,000 consumer balls fittings, Bridgestone discovered there was room for improvement.
Since scoring is really dictated by shots around the greens, you can’t make a ball soft enough, as far as I’m concerned, and that’s where the new RXS comes in. It has a softer urethane cover than the new RX for even more short-game mastery.
Both balls boast a seven percent softer core than the previous model for more distance and feel, as well as a reformulated mantle that reduces spin off drivers and long irons for straighter, longer shots.
The RXS might just be the perfect prescription for your game.
