Adams Speedline 9032LS driver

The company that helped popularize hybrids is making real inroads in the driver category

Driver head sizes have become so big that aerodynamics can be a real issue, especially when it’s windy out. There have been times when I’ve actually felt the club shift off plane during a swing in gusty conditions. I’m no aeronautical engineer, but that can’t be good.

The Speedline 9032LS driver addresses the issue with a patent-pending head shape that the company says creates less drag and airflow turbulence than other drivers. The 9032LS has heel and toe scoops that are 1½ times bigger than the original model for even better aerodynamics, resulting in four MPH faster club speed and three to nine more yards off the tee. Other improvements include a 17.3 percent larger face area that generates 10 percent less spin.

“It gives me what I was looking for in a driver—traditional shape, ample forgiveness with lots of distance,” says a 7. “I love the performance, looks, sound and feel. Plus, the ball actually rolls out for me some. With my previous driver, the ball pretty much stopped where it landed.”

Available in three lofts, 8.5-10.5 degrees; $370, adamsgolf.com
